Fr. Jacob’s letter of thanks to each and every one of you!
Dear Pallottine Friends and Family,
The 38th anniversary of my priestly ordination as a Pallottine was something extraordinary. In fact, the anniversary itself fell on the 20th of October. However, Julianne- our creative and untiring webmaster- continued to work quietly, producing something totally new and out of the blue.
Greetings coming from 27 countries! From our schools around the world and their wonderful children, to seminarians, communities of the Pallottine Sisters, and lay members of the Union.
Personally, I felt humbled to receive such an honour and kindness from all of you. I also felt strengthened in my life and ministry. It is encouraging to know that so many persons think of me, pray for me, and wish me well. It is also a great manifestation of the goodness and magnanimity of the heart of each one of you.
The website www.WeAreAMission.org, and the bulletin connected to it, is around 6 months old. However, the site has had visitors from 59 countries, and our most recent newsletter reached over 13,000 people; especially to the youth through the site itself, Facebook, Twitter, and above all, by its beautiful photos.
It is a website bringing together the entire Pallottine Family. It also gives us an opportunity to see the beautiful works that we do for God and His people around the world in the spirit of our Founder, St. Vincent Pallotti. Each one of us is a mission. As Pallottines, We Are A Mission.
This new venture would not have been possible without the blessings of God. We pray especially to St. Joseph, the Guardian of the Church, the foster Father of the Holy Family, and the Protector of all the defenseless women and children around the world.
Then, certainly, to our Founder, St. Vincent Pallotti- the mystic and Apostle- who happily accompanies this good work!
I need to also acknowledge the human instruments functioning behind the scene to make this dream of mine come true. The creative hands are those of Julianne, or Jules. She is a young girl from USA, a journalist, with a profound love for our Founder and the Little Flower. Though I may give an idea and write some of the articles, it is she- this young person- who gives them their colorful expression. It is particularly precious because it comes from a youth. Our whole venture is aimed at "Making a child smile again,” and bringing the Gospel to the young people of today.
The second person to be acknowledged is Fr. Peter Sticco, the Provincial of the Immaculate Conception Province, along with all of the Province’s members. Fr. Peter is another person who shares our convictions regarding the missions, the care of the children, and young people. It is he and his Province who supports Julianne to carry forth our mission, and I am very grateful for that.
So, the big "Jacob's Dream" is to make our Founder, St. Vincent Pallotti, known and loved by as many people as possible. As Pope Francis says, such love must be concrete.
We need to love and care for the children who are precious before God. We cannot abandon them, for their angels are constantly guarding them.
We need to make the Gospel of Jesus’ life attractive to young people, allowing them to experience all of life’s joys. Happiness is a fruit of a good life, of a good deed. This means that we need to go forth to the peripheries of our own self, our own state of life, and our own existence, faith and country. If we give gratuitously, we receive a hundredfold in return, totally as a gift. This is the logic of the Gospel. And this is the paradox of Christian and human existence.
Welcome to everyone cooperating in this mission, We Are A Mission! But mission is not just a matter of opening a mission in a new country, or doing a few works of charity. The greatest mission is: Be holy! Just as our Heavenly Father is holy.
There is only one way to that holiness. Which is, as our Founder says, the entire life of Jesus Christ. May the Gospel become the only foundation and motive for our own existence as a human being and a Christian, and for all our good works for the good of God’s people, anywhere in the world.
Love of God in action, in service of His people: this means living the periphery, the Logic of the Cross.
