"Together We Can Do Great Things": USA
“I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things.”
St. Teresa of Calcutta
30 September + Our Lady of Grace, Fairview, New Jersey
Sundays are for love & service.
At our Pallottine parish in the United States, it was an event of communion across countries, congregations, and vocations, so to bring Jesus’ love to where there was want and need. Our saint of youth watched from on high, as the young men and women from Our Lady of Grace teamed up with the Missionary of Charity Sisters, as well as Daniella Laino- secretary to Provincial Fr. Peter Sticco- to support the poor through accompaniment, games, and lunch.
Mass was also celebrated together with Fr. Peter and Msgr. Salvador Piñeiro García-Calderón, Archbishop of the Diocese of Ayacucho. He who Fr. General Jacob calls “the Pope Francis of Peru,” is a true Pastor of humanity; understanding that to be a shepherd who smells of his flock is the ultimate sign of holiness.
It was through Msgr. Salvador that the Society’s Immaculate Conception Province opened its Peruvian mission on February 23, 2014, in collaboration with Brazil’s Sao Paolo Province, and India’s Cenacle Sisters. Its works of mercy in the mountainous altitudes make it a mission not for the weary, but for those of steadfast faith; and thanks to our courageous missionaries, it can be called the mission which has made many children smile again.
Surely, there is nothing so precious as the joy of a Christian, and no characteristic more distinctive; for in the words of St. Teresa of Calcutta, “we will never know the joy a simple smile can do.”
